AP vs. OEM

Productive Partnerships
Working with the best is the only way to produce the best. Over the years, AP Racing has built the closest working relationships with leading motor manufacturers and with the most successful racing and rally teams. As much as anything, it is through partnerships with the sport's leading practitioners that they can devise individual specifications to satisfy the demands of the most exacting motoring environments.

Original Brakes vs. AP Racing
To demonstrate the effect of brake fade we took a pair of Audis equipped with TSW wheels and Yokohama tires onto a high speed circuit for a series of measured emergency stops from high speed. We carries out the tests first with the original brakes, then we fitted the AP Racing brakes and carried out the test again.

We carried out the stops in quick succession to make the brakes work as hard as possible. As you can see from the chart, the performance of the original brakes generally become progressively worse as heat built up. (Fluctuation on runs 4 and 7 were probably due to heat retention from the previous runs).

By contrast the AP Racing® brakes gave fairly consistent performance throughout the test. By the end of the test, the original brakes were taking 50ft more than the AP Racing® brakes to bring the car to a stop - proof that the AP Racing® brakes were able to dissipate the heat and resist fade in a way that the standard brakes are unable to achieve.

How the tests were carried out
We used an optical device to measure the speed to an accuracy of 0.1%. This device triggered a buzzer at a set speed.

We accelerated until the buzzer sounded, drove until the set speed was exceeded, then coasted until the buzzer sounded again, at which point the brakes were applied fully in emergency stop style. The distance covered between the brakes being applied and the car coming to rest was measured. The time taken to come to rest, the actual deceleration and the average deceleration in feet per second, were also recorded.

Initial runs were made to calibrate the instruments and then the measured runs were made with two people on board and the stopping results were evaluated and the stopping distances chart was produced.
