Winning On The Track

A Powerful Pedigree
Experience breeds excellence. For more than half a century, AP Racing has been a world leader in the manufacture of competition and high performance components. It is no coincidence that every Formula one championship since 1967 has been won using their equipment. In every branch of motorsport, from Nascar to club racing, in more than 100 countries around the world, you'll find AP Racing behind the winning teams.

Born out of Racing
If you have any sort of interest in cars at all, the name of AP Racing® will be familiar to you. AP Racing has been at the forefront of just about every sort of motorsport for years.

Top Teams from FORMULA 1, WORLD RALLY CAR, GT Le Mans, NASCAR, and Indy Racing League (IRL) rely on AP Racing. In fact 6 out of 11 teams currently on the Formula 1 grid use AP Racing’s Brakes. They’re even the specified supplier to British Touring Car and the new German DTM and V8 Star series cars.

…In short AP Racing is on more race applications than any other brake manufacturer!

AP racing is also an OEM supplier to such companies as Lotus, Rover (MG), Austin-Martin, Renault, and many others..

The same …but different
Our Big Brake Systems live up to the same AP Racing® tradition… These Systems are engineered using the same world-renowned AP Racing 6 and 4 Piston Calipers, as well as massive 13 and 14 inch rotors. Each component utilizes the latest in advance brake technologies based on AP Racing’s vast experience and dominance in world class auto racing. In addition, each system incorporates specific design elements to deliver exceptional reliability for every day driving.

Specifically Designed for the Street
Some things that are unnecessary on race brakes become essential on road brakes. Without any alteration, race brakes would only last between 3,000 and 10,000 miles on the road. Racing might be tough, but everyday stop-starts without constant scrutiny can be tougher!

On our street kits the calipers have proper road-use dust seals, to keep out those tiny dirt particles that can cause damage to the pistons and bores.

Cross drilling of discs is used to allow gasses to dissipate, but fewer holes means that wear on the pads is reduced. The holes are radiused to extend life and to make them quieter in operation. We also add anti-rattle pad clips to eliminate pad knock and make the brakes acceptable for everyday driving. That’s something else you won’t find on other manufacturer’s calipers!

Race brakes are not kept in service long enough for corrosion to become an issue, but protection against corrosion is vital on a road-use system. We use materials such as stainless steel to prevent corrosion and special PTFE coatings to protect our aluminum calipers. Race cars don’t have to contend with road salt in winter, but our road brakes not only have to run all through the winter, they also have to be able to endure conditions in every market around the world, and that includes markets as diverse as Finland and Saudi Arabia!
